As a professional speaker, do you devote any of your speech to talking about money? Most major speakers in the public market do. Watch this short video I taped in Manhattan after my latest appearance on FOX Business Network. I’ll look forward to your comments.

Are You a Camera-Ready Speaker?

Posted by: | Comments (6)

Whether you’re going on stage, TV or signing autographs after a speech, you MUST be camera-ready. The speaking business (at the highest level) is conducted in front of thousands, if not tens of thousands or millions of people through various mediums. The public, your fans and your audience expect and deserve to see you at your best. Watch this short post I taped in Chicago after being interviewed on WICU-TV (NBC) and I’ll look forward to your comments. For any of you interested in seeing my television appearances, visit www.steveontv.com where you can see me on over 100 different TV shows from around the world.

How to TV Interview via Satellite

Posted by: | Comments (5)

As your fame and credibility grow as a speaker, you’re going to be asked to do national and international television interviews. Unless you’re based in NYC, you’ll be doing most of your interviews via satellite from a remote studio up linked to NYC or other major cities. Being interviewed via satellite is more difficult for a number of reasons, and you want to be prepared so you can maximize your national/international exposure. Watch this short video (2:34) I shot at the satellite studio for Chinese Central TV in Chicago (CCTV) where I was up linked via satellite to Washington, DC and Beijing, China. I’ll look forward to your comments.

Speakers on Television Interviews

Posted by: | Comments (3)

After being interviewed on hundreds of television shows over the past 4 years, I’ve learned a few key techniques that keep TV audiences awake and TV producers coming back for more. There is nothing more powerful in promoting your speaking career than publicity, and television is the most credible publicity you can get. Watch this short video (1:35) I shot a few days ago in Milwaukee after appearing on FOX Business Network via satellite from Milwaukee Public Television.

Getting on Television

Posted by: | Comments (5)

You’re a professional speaker with a life changing message. The million dollar question is; how do you deliver your message to the world? The fastest way is through television. You have two choices when it comes to doing TV. Choice number one is doing infomercials. Choice number two is by being interviewed by the biggest television personalities in the country. Which strategy gives you more credibility? I’ve done both, and while both are good, being interviewed on TV gives you more credibility than any other medium. I’ve been on 53 TV shows in the past 5 months (see ‘Steve on TV’ on the blog header) from New York to London to Sydney, and our business is booming. I’d love to take credit for all of this TV coverage, but the truth is I hardly deserve any credit at all. The man behind our success on TV is world-class publicist Bruce Serbin. (www.serbinmedia.com) I call him “Bruce the Beast”, because no one is more persistent or masterful in the media than Bruce. I caught up with him today in Boca Raton, Florida, and asked him to share his secret with our blog subscribers about how to get booked on TV as a professional speaker.

We get calls at the Bill Gove Speech Workshop every day from people looking to break  into the professional speaking business, telling us they heard it was easy. If anyone tells you this business is easy, I promise you he/she is NOT in this business. There are a LOT of people who sell this lie to aspiring speakers, and they profit handsomely from it. Thats one of the reasons Bill Gove, the father of professional speaking, would never allow anyone to teach his workshop that was not a six/seven figure professional speaker in their own right. Bill Gove was the real deal, and he was one of the only people who told me the  truth about this business. BEWARE of people posing as professional speakers who actually make their living selling products, programs and speaker coaching to new speakers. This is one of the ugly secrets of this business no one who knows better likes to talk about.  I witnessed this for 10 years as a member of the National Speakers Association. The only reason I was able to succeed in an organization where 80% of the speakers are earning a meager living, was through the guidance of Bill Gove and our Gove-Siebold Group national board of advisors. They introduced me to the top 40-50 speakers and those were the only people I was instructed to listened to. One of those people was the late, great, Walter Hailey, the Texas billionaire who built and sold his first company to Kmart Corporation for 72 million dollars when he was still in his 20’s. Walter Hailey was a 1961 graduate of the Bill Gove Speech Workshop, and went on to document his marketing secrets in a brilliant book called, Breaking the No Barrrier. This book is NOT about the speaking business, but it helped me sell a ton of corporate speaking engagements utilizng Hailey’s N.E.E.R. system. This is PURE MARKETING GENUIS!  This is the STREET SMART method of breaking into the business. Check it at amazon.com or your local bookstore. I’ve read this book 7 times since Steve Anderson, Walter ‘s business partner, gave me a copy. This world class resource will help you build your business and catapult your speaking income.
