One of the fastest ways to catapult your public speaking career is to be interviewed on national television. Last year I was on the Today Show, Good Morning America, FOX, ABC News, NBC, CBS, and a bunch of others. I can tell you from experience this is one the best things you can do for your career. In this short 3-minute video post, I share some of the most important tips for succeeding in this medium.

Thanks Steve – great tips! I guess it’s all about being “Studio-friendly”?!

  2. Hi Steve – good points you make, particularly about the differences between stage and the camera. Making presentations is a very different beast, rather like the difference between riding a bike and riding a horse!

That’s one of the reasons I get so frustrated when I see courses advertising ‘presentation and media training’ – If I could train people to do both in one day I’d be a loooooot richer than I am right now! :)

Great tips and very true. How do you get that “call” to be on TV? I had been conducting small business workshops for some time. Had a lead, called it, the event organizer said “what is the title of your book?” I did not have one at that time and she said, “sorry we only book authors.” Once I published my book, the doors opened. Write a book and then go for it.

  4. Chris Tunstall says:

Steve, great advice. Simple yet critical.

  5. Nilofer Syed says:

Great Job Steve!!! Public speaking according to me is what you speak and how you deliver within a limited time frame inorder to get the right feedback.

So just got a call from the host of radio station in Canada.

She said, “I’d want to record you right now for an interview we’ll run later today.”
I said, “Can we do it tonight when I’m at home on my land line?”
She said, “Nope. It’s either now, or never.”

So we did a 4 minute segment. And holy crap!! You ain’t kidding when you say, “when they want you, they want you NOW.”
