So very true, Steve. So very true. I recently attended a conference that was geared
towards artists. One very accomplished artist immediately gelled with the audience as he
spoke of the stumbles and mistakes he made along the way. He was very self deprecating
and laughed at his errors.
Meanwhile another artist alienated himself by bragging about his wondrous deeds and
accomplishments, even though he was not very successful. It was interesting to see and
hear the comments about this speaker, none of which were endearing or good.

I wonder why? Are they really established speakers?
I think as we teach our speakers to speak we hit them hard with creating that connection,
that relationship so they see themselves in your talk.
I call my training, Storytizing, where you take your talk and put it into your speaker blender
and when you pour it out for them it is now your stories but using their memories, their
emotions, and their experiences.
Maybe some newer speakers will hear you and learn.

Yes, these were all 7-figure speakers working at national conventions. I believe they do it out of ego, mixed in with an inferiority complex.
